This week we are looking at what Leap Motion brings to augmented reality. We have seen that they have created some incredible techniques before, especially when it comes to motion tracking and control. Now it looks like they think they're entering the AR augmented reality world in a priority-oriented way.
Leap Motion has a head display that achieves a balance between performance and appearance, which achieves the balance that Leap Motion says is the highest technical specification. In other words, they have created a product that people can use, unlike most other consumer products in the world today.
To make the head display, Leap Motion's team used several 5.5in smartphones. They placed the smartphones on both sides of the wearer's face and reflected their internal images. With this setting, they eventually found that they needed to create their own LED display system. They decided to use an Analogix display driver and two "quick-switch" BOE 3.5inch displays.
.
They have created a head display that, as they describe, will put all other heads to shame (VR,AR, etc.). Two 120 fps,1600x1440 displays, 100 + viewing range and 150 fps manual tracking 180 x 180 degree FOV, turn on this head display, and today's system resolution, wait time and field of view limits will disappear.
So where can you buy this miracle of modern technology? You can't. Currently, Leap Motion calls this project the "Polaris Project" and uses it as a springboard. They are using this project to show that it is wrong for all of us to focus on AR hardware and that their products can bring the best experience.
